Five States, 2500 miles, and some great captures!

Since San Antonio’s lightning had disappeared, we decided to storm chase across the neighboring states. Our plan was to head to Cimarron, NM. The Internet reports they get 27 days of thunderstorms during July each year. Sounds like a no brainer, right? Once we hit Cimarron, the forecast called for 10% chance of thunderstorms increasing only slightly over the next few days. We decided to head for Colorado Springs since thunderstorm chances improved to 60%.

I got so caught up in watching for lightning, I photobombed my own photo!

We were able to capture a few day light strikes from downtown Colorado Springs in a parking garage.

The storm coming over the Rocky Mountains did indeed prove chase worthy! We followed it to Kansas and captured a few night strikes.

However, trying to catch up with the storm we caught sight of this gorgeous double rainbow and cloud structure.

Best shot of the trip!

The storm continued to the east, but we decided to head for home. We spent a night in Edmond, OK on Lake Arcadia where we captured our best shot of the trip.

This proved to be a great vacation/chase for us. We thoroughly loved seeing different parts of the country and capturing lightning. It was a working vacation, however, we’re testing a new product. Details to follow soon!!!

This is a record storm chase for us. We traveled over 2500 miles in 6 days. How far have you chased?

For the best photos, whenever using the Strike Finders always:

  • Make sure the cable is plugged flush into the device.
  • Use fresh batteries.
  • Set the camera on manual focus.
