We love explosions of all kinds!

Today we’re starting small scale with balloon pops. I’ll take you through the set up so you can create your own balloon pops and hopefully spark your imagination to make your own explosions.

We’re using the Strike Finder Touch as our unit of choice today. However, you can use the same set up with the Strike Finder Elite or Strike Finder Pro II. We’re using the sound sensor today, so select the “Sound” module from the home screen. Since the balloon is so close to the sound sensor, the sensitivity does not need to be cranked up. Ours is set about half way.

Plug the sound sensor into the “Sound” input and test by tapping on the sound sensor box.

We’re using a flash to stop the action. Our flash is set on manual using the lowest setting: 1/128. The flash is connected to the Touch through a flash sync cable. The flash will eliminate any shutter lag on the camera.

Use the shutter release to open the shutter just prior to shooting the dart. The flash, not the shutter, will stop the motion of the dart. So the flash will need to be set fast, but the shutter can be set on a slower speed.

We shoot in the dark to eliminate ghosting on the picture. Activate the shutter using the shutter release then shoot the dart to trigger the Touch.

The dart we’re using is a home made out of a piece of foam and a needle. It’s pretty easy to construct. Just remember to blow out!
