Can Lightning Really Pop a 20 Foot Bag of Popcorn?

Cineplex, a Canadian based company wants to find out if lightning can really pop popcorn. As part of their #WeatherorNot campaign, they’ve placed a 20 foot bag of popcorn outfitted with a lightning rod in a field outside Windsor, Ontario. This Canadian based company with 163 theaters wants to prove that entertainment can happen even during thunderstorms.

Will this bag of popcorn actually pop? You’re encouraged to cast your vote! With over 234,000,000 lightning bots hitting the US every year, what are the odds of this lightning pole being struck? Strike Finder’s official vote is a resounding yes, we’re all eating popped popcorn.

I know most of the storms have passed most of the country by at this stage in the year. So if you’re not busy chasing storms yourself, you too can join the lightning fun by watching it live streaming at Cineplex.com/Popcorn! The experiment will run August 24 through September 2, 2016.
